12 PTI workers arrested for riots granted on bail by the Karachi court

Karachi:

A Karachi court granted the bail on Tuesday to 12 workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) that were arrested for charges of riots, stone fights and attacking the police during a manifestation of protest in the metropolis on August 5.

The judicial magistrate for the East district approved the bail supplications presented by the defense lawyers and ordered the release of the defendants against the bail bonds of RS5,000 each. Previously, the police had produced the accused before the court and sought his physical return for greater interrogation.

According to the investigation officer (IO), PTI workers had blocked the road during a demonstration led by high -level leaders, including Fordous Shamim Naqvi, Awab Alvi and Raja Azhar, in Hassan Square.
The IO affirmed that the protest became violent when the defendant threw stones at the law agents and attacked them with sticks, hurting a police officer identified as Aijaz.

The IO requested the physical custody of the accused for the verification of the criminal records, adding that several other suspects were still released.

However, the Court rejected the police application and granted the bond to all the 12 defendants, who were identified as Nadir, Abdul Rafi, Sarfraz Jameel, Fida Rehman, Nabi Ahmad, Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Ibrahim, Younus Khan, Tsar Wali, Muhammad Hanif, Sohail Ahmad Memon Memon and Dnan.

Later, the president of PTI Sindh, Haleem Adil Sheikh, visited the city court to meet with the workers released. Speaking to the media on the occasion, he said that the bail order was a victory for truth and justice.

The protest in Hassan Square was peaceful, and that the signed registered against party workers was manufactured, he said. “The police used Baton’s position and shot shells against peaceful protesters,” he said, adding that his name was not included in the FIR, but was then inserted in the Remunction documents.

He reiterated the resolution of the party to continue the protest movement until the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, be released from jail. “The frustration among young people is growing with every day that passes. Imran Khan’s continuous imprisonment is not of interest,” he added.
