In a significant movement after the tragedy of the Greek ship, 13 officials of the Federal Research Agency (FIA) have been dismissed from their positions. This action follows the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in response to the participation of officials in the incident.
The general director of the FIA, Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir, confirmed on Tuesday that departmental procedures are ongoing against the personnel involved in the tragedy.
The officials were parked at the Faisalabad airport at the time of the incident, and their dismissal is part of the agency’s commitment to hold people responsible for negligence and misconduct.
The dismissed personnel includes an inspector, two sub -inspectors, two head agents and eight agents. In addition, the promotions of three agents have been arrested and disciplinary measures have been taken against which they are responsible.
Jahangir, speaking during an audience in Islamabad, emphasized that there is no place for negligent or irresponsible officials within the agency.
He also declared that strict actions would continue against the FIA personnel involved in illegal activities, which stresses that responsibility is essential to combat human trafficking and guarantee justice for victims.
Previously, another 37 FIA officials had been fired for their participation in accidents in similar boats. Jahangir reaffirmed the agency’s position on transparency and responsibility, emphasizing that no indulgence would be shown to those who exploit innocent citizens.
The FIA has promised to continue its efforts to eradicate human trafficking and guarantee the punishment of the declared guilty of such atrocious acts.
Pakistan’s mission in Greece confirmed that five Pakistani citizens were among the victims of a tragic migrant boat accident on the Greek island of Gavdos.
The initial reports of a local news channel suggested that at least 40 Pakistani had perished in the disaster, citing the embassy in Athens.
However, an official of the Pakistan mission in Greece clarified that the confirmed number of Pakistani casualties is in five o’clock, with another 47 rescued. The official also mentioned that until now concrete information has been received about missing persons.
Following the tragedy, Prime Minister Shehbaz ordered a strict action against the FIA officials involved in facilitating the traffickers of people, highlighting the government’s commitment to combat human trafficking and hold those responsible.
