135,000 Pakistani seek asylum abroad

It was revealed during the meeting of a parliamentary panel that around 135,000 Pakistani have sought political asylum in Western countries in the last two years. It was also told to the committee that 52,000 Pakistani have been deported from neighboring countries, including Iran during the same period.

The Senate Permanent Committee on Pakistani abroad held a meeting on Tuesday. During the session, chaired by Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, Passport General Director revealed that 125,000 Pakistani in Europe and more than 10,000 in the United States had requested political asylum.

He informed the committee that some countries do not practice Pakistani citizens who arrive there by illegal means, but immediately repatrian them to Pakistan.

“34,000 Pakistani were deported from Iran last year. The passports of deported people have been blocked, while those involved in criminal activities receive strict punishments,” he said.

The DG said that more than 10.3 million qualified Pakistani professionals are currently working abroad.

Previously, the officials of the Pakistani Ministry abroad declared that Saudi Arabia has reduced the number of visas issued to the Pakistani and harden the eligibility criteria.

The Federal Research Agency (FIA) informed the Committee that since 2023, more than 52,000 Pakistani have been deported, including 5,000 deported beggars of Saudi Arabia.
