2.4 million SIMs distributed to BISP beneficiaries for payments through wallet accounts

BISP DG Punjab said future payments will be disbursed through wallet accounts linked to SIM cards provided free of cost.

As many as 2.4 million free SIM cards have so far been distributed to Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) beneficiaries across Punjab to facilitate the disbursement of financial assistance through digital wallet accounts, ensuring secure, convenient and timely access to payments, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Sunday.

This was stated by BISP Director General, Punjab, Haider Murtaza, while speaking to media representatives during his visit to SIM distribution centers in Muzaffargarh, where he reviewed the ongoing distribution process for the registered beneficiaries.

During the visit, the CEO inspected the operational arrangements, beneficiary facilitation measures and overall service delivery at the centres. Haider Murtaza also reviewed the Digital Financial Education Training provided at the centers and said that the initiative aims to equip beneficiaries with the necessary knowledge for the proper use of SIM cards and wallet accounts.

He explained that wallet accounts are being opened in these SIMs and that, in the future, all BISP payments will be disbursed exclusively through these digital wallets, improving transparency and promoting financial inclusion.

She added that the initiative would play a vital role in empowering women and strengthening their economic independence.

The CEO categorically informed the beneficiaries that the SIM cards are absolutely free and no money should be paid to anyone under any circumstances. She stressed that the social protection portfolio is entrusted to women as a responsibility that must be safeguarded with utmost care.

He advised beneficiaries not to share their wallet information, PIN codes or SIM card details with anyone and to ensure the security of their SIM cards at all times. In case of any complaint or problem, the beneficiaries were directed to immediately contact the nearest BISP Tehsil office or call the BISP helpline at 0800-26477.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved so far, the Director General directed the concerned staff to further expedite the distribution process while maintaining quality of service. It also directed field staff and service providers to ensure smooth operations, effective crowd management and strict compliance with standard operating procedures, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy for negligence or misconduct.

The general director appreciated the efforts of the field teams and urged them to continue working with dedication and professionalism.
