27 Wounded as two trains derail


Khanewal:

At least 27 passengers were injured when two trains, Awam Express and Musa Pak Express, found a fault on the track while running between Khanewal and Mian Chann.

According to travelers, most of the injured suffered wounds in their arms and fingers.

1122 rescue teams provided immediate first aid to the victims upon arrival at the Khanewal station.

While the precise cause of the incident remains undetermined, the passengers reported that the sitting near the doors and windows were more affected by the impact.

According to the sources, some unidentified individuals had allegedly tried to steal a signal staircase installed along the railroad track. Although they could not separate it completely, the ladder was misaligned, which was believed to be the probable cause of the accident.

Since then, Pakistan Railways has launched a formal investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and evaluate any security lapses.

Pakistan Railways registered a total of 45 train -related incidents in the first six months of 2025, deepening concerns about the persistent security and infrastructure challenges throughout the national rail network.
