One of the nice things about Hulu is that its catalog is so vast that it includes all kinds of little tidbits, like true crime shows that have previously aired on other stations and streamers that you may not have subscribed to or tuned into. And there are three particularly welcome new crime shows available to stream starting this month.
While all three shows focus on true crimes and tell often terrifying stories, each has a different focus. Death by fame looks at the entertainment industry and the people around it, while Murder under the Friday night lights focuses heavily on the deadly rivalries and obsessions in high school football.
Death by fame season 3
Look
Death by fame has a simple setup: It focuses on really nasty crimes perpetrated in and around the glamorous entertainment industry, and season 3 brings a typically wholesome selection that includes a human torso in a dumpster, a strangulation in a bathtub, and a drowning in a swimming pool, among others.
Let’s be honest: The “Fame” part of the title is often a bit of a stretch: while previous seasons included some household names like Run DMC’s Jam Master Jay, few of the people in these later episodes are well-known, but that’s true to life, because crimes in and around the music, television, and film businesses are often committed by or against people who chase fame without necessarily having found it.
The focus on the entertainment industry is smart, because it is an industry full of sharks, easy targets, very vulnerable people and all kinds of excesses. That doesn’t make it very safe, but it provides plenty of stories to tell. Death by fame to investigate.
Murder Under the Lights Friday Night Season 4
Look
The entertainment industry isn’t the only place you’ll find cruel ambitions, dangerous rivalries, and brutal violence. season 4 of Murder under the Friday night lights He finds it on high school football teams, where dangerous obsessions can lead to brutal acts.
This fourth season of the well-established police series will definitely discourage you from becoming a cheerleader: many of the episodes here cover cheerleaders turned murderers, missing cheerleaders, and cheerleaders found dead. It’s almost a relief when you see an episode where the victim is a sports coach instead of a current or former cheerleader.
