An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 shook several cities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday, said Associated Press of Pakistan. According to the seismological center, severe shocks were reported at the top of the dir, chitral, swat and the surrounding areas, which forced citizens to leave their homes.
The seismological center confirmed the magnitude of the earthquake, stating that its epicenter was located in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan, approximately 102 kilometers from Bajaur.
Until now, he has not reported immediate loss of lives or properties.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan is found in several active failures and is in a highly active region seismically, which makes it vulnerable to earthquakes. Earlier this month, an earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 122 kilometers, hit several regions of Pakistan.
In June of this year, Karachi registered a total of 19 minor tremors that is weird in the history of the city. Tsunami Karachi’s first warning cell launched official data, confirming that the strongest earthquake measured 3.6 magnitude, while the weakest was recorded with 2.1 magnitude.
Of the total of 19 tremors, 11 were registered in the Malir district, while the remaining ones felt in the southwest part of Korangi and the northeastern areas of DHA.
Experts attributed repeated seismic activity to changes in underground tectonic layers. These tremors were caused by the release of energy generated by the low -level seismic movement below the surface of the Earth.
