LAHORE:
The rescue and relief operations are in progress in areas affected by the floods of Punjab, where thousands of people have been evacuated in the midst of water levels in the main rivers.
The provincial government, the 1122 rescue, the police, the army, the civil defense and the voluntary organizations, including the Edhi Foundation, are working 24 hours to avoid a greater loss of lives and protect the property.
According to 1122 rescue figures, more than 51,129 people have been rescued from submerged villages along the Indo, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and Jhelum rivers. The service has deployed 669 ships throughout the province to evacuate residents and provide transport to safer places.
In the last 24 hours alone, at least 19,215 people were transferred from areas affected by floods, while 442 more were rescued Thursday morning.
A 1122 rescue spokesman urged citizens in vulnerable locations to immediately call the 1122 emergency installation line in case of danger and provide precise details of their location.
The Punjab Police Inspector, Dr. Usman Anwar, ordered the Lahore Police and the District Police officers (DPO) in the affected regions to remain on the maximum alert. He said the police were helping rescue teams to change residents, protect property in evacuated areas and provide security in relief camps. “Punjab police are standing with rescue agencies and help to safeguard the lives and belongings of citizens,” he said.
Police have also had the task of supporting the provision of food, drinking water and medicines in the aid centers while coordinating with PDMA, 1122 rescue and district administrations.
