we had a In fact It’s hard to decide what to include in this week’s streaming recommendations article. In fact, so many new movies and new and returning TV shows have arrived on the world’s best streaming services in recent days that we could have written four articles like this one to cover them all.
Unfortunately, of the approximately 20 films and series that were lost, we can only compile one. However, we think the seven we’ve chosen are the cream of the crop, so we’re sure you’ll find one of the options below appealing. Happy streaming! – Tom Power, Senior Entertainment Reporter
Stranger Friday (Disney+)
Look
Dust off your Walkman and fire up that Motorola Razr V3, millennials, because this year’s big Y2K nostalgia movie is finally streaming on Disney+. After a good run at the box office, Stranger Friday has been considered a success by fans and critics alike, even eclipsing the original.
So what did Disney get right? Reuniting Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as the iconic mother-daughter duo in this sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy is the main reason it’s one of the standout new movies on Disney+. Beyond that, the film offers a big dose of cheesy humor and plenty of references for longtime fans.
It’s not perfect but, if you’re looking for a happy watch, Stranger Friday hits the target. Be sure to check out our Stranger Friday Review once you’ve seen it! – Amelia Schwanke, Senior Entertainment Editor
In your dreams (Netflix)
Look
Netflix has a pretty solid track record with family-friendly animated movies. The sea beast, Klaus, Ultraman: on the riseand Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro That’s just four big new Netflix movies that have received critical and commercial praise in the last two years. Oh, and then there was that little-known movie about a k-pop group that hunts demons. What was his name again…
I’m kidding, I’m kidding. It is practically impossible for in your dreamsNetflix’s latest animated film, will come close to matching the cultural phenomenon known as Kpop Demon Hunters. However, the story of brothers who travel to the world of dreams to locate Sandman, with the aim of granting them their wish to save their parents’ marriage, seems hilarious.
Expect the usual family themes to be explored through the lens of another beautiful, action-packed, and probably fun movie. – T.P.
Malice (Prime Video)
Look
X-Files‘David Duchovny partners with Fresh Meat‘s Jack Whitehall in this new Prime Video thriller series. It’s not a combination I expected, but I think it’s great.
Malice It follows Duchovny’s wealthy character, Jamie, who hires a nanny, Adam from Whitehall, but not everything is as it seems because it soon becomes clear that Adam’s intentions might not be pure.
Set in picturesque locations like Greece and London, Jamie follows Adam and his family, plotting something. If you’re in the mood for a fun and twisted Amazon TV original, this one has you covered this weekend. – Lucy Buglass, Senior Entertainment Writer
Landman season 2 (Paramount+)
Look
Grab your cowboy hats, guys, because Billy Bob Thornton is back on the scene. landman joined the Taylor Sheridan-verse on Paramount+ in 2024, with Tommy Norris (Thornton) as a key player in the West Texas oil trade. You’re working to secure a future for your company during a business boom, but basically everyone you come into contact with is your natural enemies.
Season 2 ramps up the pressure on Norris, with his girlfriend Cami Miller (Demi Moore) and her family pushing him to the edge. Mooreheads will be pleased to know that she has a much bigger role this time around, returning to us after her Oscar nomination for The substance.
If there’s one thing Sheridan doesn’t skimp on, it’s the messy drama. In fact, I would go so far as to say that landman He’s the messiest of the group, and if Cami is just getting angry, I’d save your popcorn now. – Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
Eddington (HBO Max)
Look
Ari Aster is back with a new collaboration with Joaquin Phoenix, continuing his absolutely crazy but brilliant The groom is afraid. This time, Phoenix stars in a neo-western thriller, set in New Mexico during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Edington follows the conflict between Phoenix Sheriff Joe Cross and Pedro Pascal Mayor Ted Garcia, whose election dispute causes political and social upheaval. With a score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, Edington Isn’t it Aster’s highest rated movie (that one is still Hereditary) but, if you’re a fan of his work in general, you should enjoy this one. – pound
Palm Royale season 2 (Apple TV)
Look
Ready to return to the high society of the 1960s in Palm Beach, Florida? Great, because the Apple TV mystery series Royal Palm has returned with more scandalous intrigue and over-the-top drama than many long-running soap operas.
Described by its stars as Hitchcock meets Hauntedstars Kristen Wiig as socialite Maxine Delacourt, who is determined to secure a spot in the most exclusive club in America. Picking up directly after Season 1’s shocking cliffhanger, Season 2 finds Maxine sidelined after that very public meltdown at the Beach Ball.
While the Apple TV Original hasn’t been a success, it has built a dedicated audience who are sure to be delighted with this new season: it’s more of the same, but it manages to raise the stakes in new and exciting ways. Pay attention to the opening scene, which pays homage to ’60s Hollywood icons in a way that will have you cheering for Ricky Martin’s return. – AS
The Seduction (HBO Max)
Look
I didn’t think I needed a prequel series to dangerous relationships completely in French, but HBO Max The seduction He quickly proved me wrong (read my The seduction check to find out why).
In cinematic terms, we’re seeing the rise of a younger Marchioness Isabelle de Merteuil (originally played by Glenn Close, now played by Anamaria Vartolomei). Together with their enemy Rosemonde (Diane Kruger), the pair embark on their rise to the top of the promiscuous French elite.
There’s as much explicit sex and scandal as you can imagine, but it’s actually the least interesting part of the six-episode series. Instead, it’s the calm, calculated drama that really sings. Two women operating in a man’s world is never an easy sell, but the man leads as mere henchmen in the bigger picture. It’s like an endless game of chess, only the pieces are naked. – joint venture
