ISLAMABAD:
Reacting to the military spokesperson’s press conference, the PTI highlighted the need for course correction and introspection.
“Pakistan and its 240 million people have been bearing the brunt of the wrong and misguided priorities of the state machinery for a long time.
“It is the responsibility of the state to uphold justice and ensure fair play instead of resorting to intimidation, coercion and threat,” PTI Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a statement on Friday.
According to Akram, justice cannot be done by making decisions with preconceived notions and biases as such decisions cannot be accepted as fair.
He said the power to punish or reward individuals rests solely with the judicial system, as provided by the Constitution, and warned that allowing defense institutions to establish their own courts would have devastating consequences for the state’s justice system and the constitutional framework as a whole.
“Precisely for this reason, decisions issued by independent constitutional courts are universally recognized and respected, while those adopted by military courts are not accepted anywhere in the world.”
Waqas stated that an “alarming decline” in rational thinking, decision-making and overall governance of the State has been the main catalyst for the prevailing chaos and conflict plaguing the country.
“The state narrative, built on deeply flawed, unrealistic and hateful foundations, is the main driver of the escalation of tensions and confrontations between the people and state institutions.
