Earthquake tremors feel in capital and other parts of the country on Tuesday

They felt earthquake tremors in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) at dawn on Tuesday morning, after a 5.2 earthquake hit the region, said the department of Pakistan’s meteorology (PMD).

Tremors were also experienced in Peshawar, Swat and Abbottabad, PMD confirmed.

According to the PMD alert, the earthquake occurred at 10.20 PM PST at a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in the Hindu mountain chains Kush of Afghanistan at a depth of 190 kilometers.

Punjab provincial disasters management confirmed that there were no victims or damages reported anywhere in the province.

“The district administrations in Punjab inspect the buildings as a precautionary measure,” said PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia, adding that the provincial control room and all the emergency operating centers of the district are on alert 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The previous incident of this type occurred in May, when a tremor of magnitude 5.5 shook northern Pakistan, shaking Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several districts in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Seismologists point out that the Hindu Kush region is prone to deep approach earthquakes, which generally occurs from 150 to 250 kilometers below the land surface.
