When people ask me about smartphones, I often say that there has not been a lot of evolution in them in recent years, especially on the camera side: even some of the best cheap phones now take photos that are more than good for social networks.
In many ways, we have possibly reached a plateau on how much the hardware of the compact camera can be expelled in phones, regardless of the megapixel count. It is here where artificial intelligence comes into play, together with the evolved image signal processing, to optimize and refine the shots. However, however intelligent that Ai Tech seems to be obtaining, I could not really fix a photo of Dud first, so far, it seems. Enter the new Google Pixel 10 series.
Already full of AI, Google has equipped its last set of Pixel phones, which includes Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, with fresh intelligent features, with one catching my eye: camera coach.
Based on the characteristics of the AI camera of past pixels phones, camera coaches use Google Gemini models, which are integrated into the camera system, to process a scene that a user tries to capture and then offer a combination of suggestions to help them find the best angle, lighting and even suggest what camera modes use to get the best photos.
In essence, Camera Coach is a way to help people who stain good photos on their phones to produce better photos.
Ai useful
It may seem a bit of crutch for people who think that photography is an art to be refined, and I agree. But it is also a tool that should help people learn how to take better photos and frame a scene.
I am a great defender of trying to capture the best photo before following the editing route, and I think the camera coach could be the means to do so. I must point out that I have not tried this function yet, so I am coming out of Google’s information, but by helping people take the best photo to start, the camera coach should avoid the need to use a complete set of generative tools for edition of AI to create a good photo after pressing the shutter button; For me, that means less delicacy and artificial falsification and more ‘real’ photography, although with a little help from some intelligent algorithms.
It could be argued that there is nothing revolutionary in the camera coach, since it is potentially an evolved version of the characteristics of the guided frame, which uses AI to help people with visual disabilities to take good photos. But I feel that it is an evolution in the right place, with AI used to help people be better instead of simply replacing a skill or doing something for them.
Now, that does not mean that Pixel 10 models lack other improvements in AI images and photo manipulation tools, since there is now an automatic version of Group’s photos to find and combine similar photos in a single image in which everyone looks better. Characteristics such as the Magic editor and AI automatic edition are also present and correct.
However, the camera coach in my eyes is a promising use of AI to help calm people and offers a new one (well, cool) Take the use of AI in smartphone chambers. And although I think I am useful enough with a camera or one of the best camera phones, I am still anxious to try it.
