Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Naveed Qamar on Sunday said it remained to be seen how the views of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan would influence the ongoing talks between the PTI and the government.
He said approval from top political party leaders was always essential for negotiations.
“At some point, the top leaders have to approve the development of the negotiations, so their input will always be there,” Qamar said.
Asked how the government would seek the views of Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, Qamar said it would need to determine how to accommodate Imran’s views in the process.
Speaking to a private news channel, Qamar also dismissed PTI’s claims that discussions were underway to shift Imran to house arrest in Adiala jail. “No such thing was revealed to us. You can hear all kinds of things from the PTI,” he said.
His comments followed a statement by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah, who stated that if the leaders of the three major political parties (PTI, PML-N and PPP) sat together to talk, the traditional national party The crises could be resolved within 70 days.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif proposed the idea of a new social contract, saying that all important “power centres”, including the army, judiciary and bureaucracy, should be involved in negotiations to address the challenges of the country.
On the other hand, PTI central leader Lal Chand Malhi released a video message in which he claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had reiterated his call for a civil disobedience movement.
