K-Electric (KE) has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a reduction of Rs 4.98 per unit in electricity tariff under the Fuel Tariff Adjustment (FCA) for November 2024.
According to a statement from the KE spokesperson, this is the third consecutive FCA where consumers could benefit from a rate reduction. The price reduction request will be reviewed by NEPRA, which will issue a written decision after evaluating the request.
The spokesperson emphasized that the rate reduction would depend on fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in the generation mix. NEPRA’s final decision will clarify which electricity bill month the FCA will apply to after the public hearing.
The hearing on this application will take place on January 15, 2025.
This latest development continues a trend of relief for consumers, and KE continues to advocate for adjustments that align with global market conditions.
Earlier, Minister of Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing affordable electricity to the public while presenting key achievements in the energy sector.
At a press conference in Islamabad, Leghari highlighted the significant reductions in electricity prices, which reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to make energy more accessible to consumers.
According to Leghari, the average price of electricity has fallen to Rs 44.04 per unit, down from Rs 48.70 per unit in June 2024.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister called for comprehensive measures to curb electricity theft and ensure efficient distribution.
He expressed concern over the slow pace of appointment process of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of power distribution companies and directed that the process be completed promptly through a transparent and merit-based approach.
