The Federal Ministry of Education has launched 100 new Mat schools (community schools) in the metropolis under its “non -formal education” initiative. The Federal Minister of Education, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, inaugurated the project in a ceremony held on Saturday at the Liaquat Library.
The general director of Non -Formal Education, Hameed Khan Niazi, of the General Directorate of Community Basic Education Schools (BECS), said the initiative follows the BECS model, where the primary study plan of degree I A V is completed within 30 months. He said that through the efforts of the Federal Minister, a package of 100 of those schools in the Metropolitan City has been introduced.
When explaining the model, he said that schools have established themselves in community homes to facilitate children outside the school. The Ministry has provided state statements together with all essential teaching materials. Children between the ages of 8 and 16 are eligible for registration. When completing the program, they can sit for the degree V exam and also opt for technical education. The training of teachers for these schools will begin on October 1.
Going to the ceremony, Dr. Siddiqui said it was the responsibility of all elected representatives, including himself, to ensure that these schools are sustained. He pointed out that while hundreds of these schools already existed in districts such as Badin, Qambar and Ghotki, Karachi did not previously had 35 and Hyderabad.
