Pakistan forms high -level committee for economic conversations with KSA after the historical defense pact

The Federal Government, in compliance with the Historical Defense Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, has constituted a high -level committee of 18 members. The task of the committee is to lead the economic negotiations between the two nations under the economic framework of Pakistan, ”said the government notification.

According to the notification, the Committee, formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will supervise the discussions aimed at expanding cooperation beyond defense and energy to include environmental protection and climatic stability.

The Committee will be co -chaired by the Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Masood Malik and the National Coordinator of the National Council for Facilitation of Special Investments (SIFC), Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ahmed.

Other members include the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, Ahad Chema; Minister of Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan; Minister of Energy, Awais Leghari; Minister of Food Security, Frog Tanveer Hussain; Minister of Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja; and Minister of Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan. Senior officials such as the president of SECP, Akif Saeed and the vice governor of the State Bank, Dr. Inayat Hussain, are also part of the team.

The Committee will also include representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Federal Income Board (FBR), the Pakistan Stock Exchange and Securities Commission (SECP) and the Pakistani Embassy in Riad to guarantee the integral coordination.

According to the notification, co -chants will form dedicated equipment to carry out quick negotiations with their Saudi counterparts. All members have received instructions to guarantee their availability as of October 6, 2025.

The establishment of the committee reflects Pakistan’s intention to expand bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia beyond traditional sectors. The inclusion of civil and military officers aims to guarantee close coordination between economic diplomacy and defense institutions.

The prime minister’s office has ordered the committee to accelerate negotiations with Saudi Arabia. He also instructed that travel approvals for any related meeting are processed the same day, within an hour. The SIFC will facilitate the operations of the committee and send travel recommendations to the Prime Minister’s office for rapid approval.

The committee can induce additional members when necessary and will present performance reports every fifteen days to the prime minister.

The sources said that during the next conversations, Pakistan is expected to request a renewed Saudi investment in the oil and agriculture sectors under a “repur” model.

Islamabad also plans to improve Pakistan exports to reduce the commercial deficit of $ 3 billion currently in favor of Saudi Arabia. It is also likely that the delayed oil refinery project, waiting for almost a decade, will be discussed.

They added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to make an official visit to Saudi Arabia in the last week of October to end the economic agreements under the new bilateral framework.
