- BT Group is expanding its 5G independent infrastructure to obtain more coverage
- A 5G SA to 5G+ brand change will communicate the benefits to customers
- US clients have already seen an impulse this summer
BT Group has declared its commitment to deliver 5G Independiente, which is marking 5G+, 99% of the United Kingdom population for the end of its fiscal year 2030, four years before the objectives of any rival.
With 5G Standalone, BT will update its central infrastructure instead of simply adding 5g radios to 4G networks, which will increase performance in all areas.
Formally known as 5G Standalone (SA), BT plans to change the brand ‘5g+’ technology to clarify the benefits for customers. Two units are already living in Leeds, with hundreds more planned before 2030.
BT is committed to a larger display of 5g SA
Ericsson radios will be responsible for improvements, with an upward link capacity to 4x greater. Updates will also result in the US network to handle up to 100 times more capacity than 4G, which allows better reliability in high demand areas such as important cities and events.
The security officer and the BT Group network officer, Howard Watson, also noted that 1,500 small cells are also in operation throughout the United Kingdom to increase coverage, and 500 have been added in the last 12 months.
Watson cited a recent group report that indicates that “continuous improvements to the quality of the mobile network could unlock up to £ 230 billion in economic growth for the United Kingdom,” however, the business leader acknowledged that expanding 5G SA alone will not solve all problems.
“Directed interventions will still be required to address specific problems, such as improving connectivity along the railroads,” he added.
At the beginning of 2025, BT Group said that 34 million British customers would have access to the 5G SA (now 5G+) network of the US by the end of August 2025, with 45 new locations added during the summer. For the spring of 2026, 41 million people are expected to have access to the 5G+of the USA.
“Whether it is on video from a crowded train station, live on the social networks of a concert with exhausted tickets, or simply remain in contact with your family and friends during the summer holidays, 5G independent in the US makes your experience softer, faster and more safe,” added the BT Group Greg McCall network officer.
The news occurs when BT Group is among the worst experiences of mobile users in Europe due to the poor implementation of 5G.
