- Hollow Knight: the latest Silksong patch is now in public beta
- Includes a simplified Chinese translation in progress.
- The new translation will replace one that was criticized by Chinese-speaking players.
Hollow Knight: Silk Song‘s The latest patch is now available via the game’s Steam public beta branch and seeks to improve the launch version’s poor Simplified Chinese translation, while incorporating a number of other fixes.
For context, the simplified Chinese translation of the launch version generated frustration from Chinese-speaking players, with some players suggesting that the game “reads like a Wuxia novel.” In response, developer Team Cherry promised improvements.
The first implementation of those improvements appears to be here now, as of patch 1.0.28954. In the Steam patch notes, Team Cherry highlights that they have only included a “basic implementation” of their new Simplified Chinese translation. But it encourages Chinese-speaking players to provide feedback, “whether it’s clarity, style, spelling or anything else,” via a bug report form.
Aside from the introduction of the new Simplified Chinese translation, this is a pretty small patch overall. The full patch notes, according to the game’s Steam page, are as follows:
- Simplified Chinese translation updated with a new script for public testing. This is just a basic implementation, It will be refined and updated based on player feedback.
- Various localization fixes implemented in all languages.
- Switched to Unity’s input system to improve overall controller support. This includes vibration features that now work for multiple controllers and additional controllers that are recognized. Some problems may remain.
- Fixed Styx not delivering rosaries when delivering the Queen’s Egg.
- Fixed Druid Eyes sometimes not equipping correctly when first acquired.
- Fixed some downward attack colliders getting stuck in rare cases.
- Fixed several cases where Hornet’s plasmified state would be erased when unintentional (e.g. Bellway travel).
- Fixed issues with entering the Plasmium state when killing a Winged Life Seed, instead of using the Plasmium Vial.
- Reduced unintentionally prolonged binding time when using Multibinder with the Shaman Crest.
- Updated the initial Multibinder link to remove worms based on community feedback.
- Various smaller tweaks and fixes.
