KARACHI:

The PPP government in Sindh has asked the federal government to transfer the armored vehicles rejected by the KP provincial administration.

The Sindh Home Department on Thursday requested the Home Ministry to allocate the vehicles rejected by the KP.

“In view of the critical security environment in Sindh, particularly with regard to the protection of Chinese citizens as well as the safety of foreigners, VVIPs and dignitaries visiting the province, there is a pressing need for bulletproof vehicles.

“Therefore, we request that these armored vehicles be kindly allotted to the Sindh government for deployment under the control of the Home Department.

“The vehicles will be used exclusively for the above official security duties and will be maintained and operated under strict departmental control,” the letter from Sindh Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Memon said.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday blamed the federal government’s “flawed policy” for the resurgence of terrorism being witnessed in the province.

He had stated that the federal government did not grant the KP funds allocated under the current war on terrorism or “other constitutional rights.”

He also alleged that the bulletproof cars provided by Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi were “defective and old”, and requested the Center to withdraw them from the market.

Later, Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti intervened saying that like the KP, his province was also affected by terrorism.

“It is an appeal to the Home Minister that if the KP government refuses to accept the bulletproof vehicles, they should be transferred to the Balochistan government so that terrorism can be countered effectively,” he said in a post on X.

In a unique turn of events after that, Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi allocated the bulletproof vehicles meant for the KP to Balochistan.
