Sindh launches Pakistan’s first digital government job portal to ensure ‘merit-based hiring’

Provincial government has expanded testing options to make recruitment more transparent and accessible: CM Murad Ali Shah

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the Sindh Employment Portal, a fully digital platform designed to make government procurement across the province transparent, efficient and technology-driven.

During the launch ceremony at the Chief Minister House, Shah said that the initiative aligns with the vision of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, recalling her motto “Benazir aayi hai, rozgaar laayi hai’. “The Sindh government has expanded testing options to make recruitment more transparent and accessible,” he said. “If a candidate fails once, he or she can retake the exam several times. The government will bear the cost of the first attempt.”

According to the Prime Minister, nearly 326,000 candidates have already passed the selection exams conducted under the Sindh Testing Service (STS) initiative, while the tests will now be conducted monthly and the results will be available immediately.

He explained that all documents, including matric certificates, CNICs and addresses, will be uploaded into the digital system of an independent board, creating a comprehensive database of eligible candidates. Selected candidates will be able to apply directly for government jobs through the portal. “This platform acts as a bridge between the Sindh government and youth seeking employment,” Shah said. “We have connected both parties through technology.”

Each department, he added, will upload their vacancies to the portal, which will be automatically updated as new positions are created. “For example, if the Department of Education decides today that it needs 100 junior employees, the Department of Finance will immediately review the availability of funds,” he said, adding that this integration eliminates delays caused by manual approvals.

Under the new system, the Finance Department will approve vacancies online, while the Information Department will publish advertisements simultaneously in newspapers and on the job portal. “This coordinated process will make recruitment faster, fairer and more transparent for the youth of Sindh,” Shah said.

Shah said the Sindh Job Portal, jointly developed by the Sindh Department of Information Science and Technology and Sukkur IBA University, represents an important step towards e-governance and digital public service delivery.

“Initially introduced for grades 5 to 15, the system has now been expanded to cover all job grades, providing a unified digital process from start to finish, from application and testing to interview scheduling, offer letters and background checks,” he added.

Key features include: Job search and AI-based voice search in Urdu and English. Multilingual support in Urdu, Sindhi and English. Integration with Special Branch of Health and Police for online medical and character verification, real-time SMS and email notifications for applicants.

The opening ceremony was attended by provincial ministers, advisors, secretaries, legislators and members of the media.
