- Report Claims Hybrid and Gen Z Workers Are Using AI to Take Notes Instead of Attending Meetings
 - Users see more promotions and earn higher salaries.
 - However, AI may not pick up on nuance, tone, or intent.

Younger workers reportedly prefer AI note-taking tools to attending in-person meetings; many say this will allow them to focus on the work that matters.
New research from Software Finder found that a fifth (19%) of workers now frequently use AI tools to take meeting notes, and hybrid workers (26%) are twice as likely to adopt them compared to in-person employees (13%).
Saving time (69%), reducing manual note-taking (41%) and improving recordkeeping accuracy (27%) were highlighted as key benefits, but users are also seeing greater indirect benefits to their careers.
Can AI replace meeting attendees?
The Software Finder study found that frequent AI note takers are more likely to receive promotions (28%) than their counterparts (15%), while they also tend to earn higher salaries on average ($86,000 versus $67,700).
Workers are saving more than an hour each week simply by using AI note-takers, but common concerns remain. Among the most cited are inaccuracy and loss of nuance (48%), privacy concerns (46%), data security risks (42%), and misinterpretation of tone or intent (32%).
A quarter also noted an over-reliance on AI, with 87% admitting their workload would increase if AI note takers stopped working. Still, 29% of workers say they have skipped meetings, leaving it to the AI, something that is more common among Generation Z (43%) than millennials (30%).
Still, not all meetings are created equal, and some are better suited for AI note-taking than others. Brainstorming sessions (53%), project status and updates (45%), and strategic planning meetings (43%) are among the most appropriate, with training/onboarding (39%) and team check-ins (37%) better when a human is present, as would be expected.
While the data suggests that moving away from in-person meetings might not be a bad thing, as workers can exploit AI to eliminate administrative work and focus on creative production, it’s still a line that needs to be navigated carefully.
