Amy Schumer set the record straight after receiving harsh criticism for deleting all of her pre-weight loss photos on social media.
Taking to her Instagram account on Wednesday, the 44-year-old comedian clarified that she didn’t delete her social media posts before she lost weight because she didn’t like the way she looked.
“I’m proud of how I’ve always looked,” Amy wrote. “I’ve been working on being pain-free and I finally am. My endometriosis has improved. My back is healing. I no longer have Cushing’s, so my face is back to normal.”
Additionally, she wrote, “I’m grateful to be strong and healthy, especially for my son. But your Instagram is not your identity, it’s a display of what you want the world to see and I feel very strong and beautiful and it’s been fun to share that.”
Amy, who shares 6-year-old son Gene Fischer with husband Chris Fischer, revealed that she didn’t deliberately “go on a weight loss journey.”
“I’m sure my weight will always fluctuate,” she explained. “I am a perimenopausal woman who takes hormonal medications. I wish you strength and self-love in any path you take, as long as it is kind and respectful of all people.”
“No matter your weight, race or religion, peace!” he added.
The comments came after fans noticed that the comedian had deleted all of her Instagram photos except for a carousel of herself in a red minidress.
