The surgery was performed with the help of the modern surgical robot “Tomai” and involved experts from the United Kingdom.
The first robotic surgery in the history of Islamabad was successfully performed at PIMS Hospital where a patient underwent an advanced operation using modern robotic technology.
The surgery was performed with the help of a state-of-the-art surgical robot ‘Tomai’, manufactured in China, and included the participation of experts from the United Kingdom.
Director of Robotic Surgery Dr Mateen Sharif told the media that the mission is to introduce robotic surgery across Pakistan with the support of the government. “Robotic surgery allows patients to recover faster and ensures more accurate results,” he said.
PIMS CEO Dr Imran Sikandar added that many procedures are technically complex, while robotic assistance minimizes patient discomfort.
Doctors from the General Surgery and Urology departments also participated in the operation. Professor Shamim Khan, Professor Mateen Sharif and Dr Javed Barki supervised the procedure, while Dr Atif Inam Shami, Dr Burhanul Haq and Dr Khalid Saeed were part of the surgical team.
