Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was seen in an episode of “Landman” on Paramount+, and his scene in a hospital alongside Jon Hamm and Billy Bob Thornton leads many to believe he wasn’t acting because he got too emotional.
“Landman,” a show about oil tycoons in Texas, saw Jones make a cameo during the ninth episode when he gave a heartfelt speech to Jon Hamm’s character, who was in a hospital bed.
It makes sense that Jones would make an appearance considering his own wealth was built through the oil and real estate business before purchasing the Cowboys.

However, “Team America” is what struck a chord with Jones, as he told Hamm’s character why he wanted to buy the team in the first place.
“I’m not saying I did anything right, but I decided a long time ago that I was going to work with my kids,” Jones says to begin his monologue. “They’re involved in everything. They’re involved in my leasing, oil and gas, real estate.

“So when I got the Cowboys, I got it so we could all work together. I thought I was doing it for them. But the one who got the most out of it was me.”
After Jones told Hamm’s character that he believes the illness he’s facing won’t take him to the afterlife, the Cowboys owner became emotional when talking about his own family.
“I just know it won’t be this time, but you will be sitting here at some point in the future, lying here at some point in the future, and this room will be full of your business partners and the people you’ve worked with your whole life.” . Chances are your kids and your family are there because they’re your kids and your family,” Jones said. “But you could have them there because they are the people you spent your life with, the people you worked with, the people you fell with and the people you got up with.
“Not just Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s who you want to be with. So when it happens like that, it’s a celebration of your life and you don’t wish you’d spent a little more time watching a few more suns rise. That’s the trick.
“I’m very proud of the Cowboys. I’m very proud of the things we’ve done in oil and gas. This pales in comparison to how proud I am to have lived my life working with my children.”
Jones’ journey in the oil and gas sector began with his company in Arkansas, called Jones Oil and Land Lease, which boomed. Jones also bought Comstock Resources, which was also involved in oil and gas exploration. Today, Jones and his family are the largest shareholders of Comstock Resources Inc.
With the money he had now, Jones bought the Cowboys on February 25, 1989 for $140 million, and they have been his pride and joy ever since. As Jones says in the speech, his children play a huge role in the Cowboys’ operations.
Jones continues to lead the team as owner, president and general manager, the last of the titles he has been criticized for in recent seasons, but he won’t give up anytime soon.
His son Stephen is director of operations, director of player personnel and co-owner. Their daughter Charlotte is brand director and co-owner. Finally, Jerry Jr. is director of sales and marketing and co-owner.
Although it may have been on a show, Jones, 82, clearly loves that his Cowboys have become a family affair, and family is something he certainly doesn’t take for granted.
