Howard Stern put an end to retirement rumors with his latest announcement.
Stern in his last statement shared that he would continue as host The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM for another three years.
The 71-year-old radio legend revealed the news live on Tuesday morning, telling listeners he had “discovered a way to have it all.”
“More free time and continue on the radio. Yes, we will be back for three years,” Stern said on the show.
He explained that even his staff had been held back until the weekend, noting: “Do you know where there are no leaks? Because I didn’t know anything until the weekend, whether I was going to stay or go.”
The news came after months of speculation about Stern’s future.
His $500 million contract was coming to an end.
Previous reports suggested that SiriusXM may not be renewed at the same financial level citing media economic changes.
Some sources even claimed that Stern’s team fueled rumors about his departure to create a stir.
Stern himself admitted he was torn, saying he longed for more personal time but still loved being on the radio.
“I like my days off. You know me, I’m never bored. I’m busy every minute,” he shared.
“I need time. I’ve never had time. I’ve been working my whole life. I’ve never really had a personal life. I thought maybe at this point in my life, I could have some free time. It would be sad, but exciting for me.”
Stern confessed, “I was really gutted. I still love being on the radio. I think the show is better than ever.”
Stern first joined SiriusXM in 2004 and debuted his show in January 2006.
The news came as Stern refuted claims that he had mocked Kim Kardashian over the Paris robbery.
