Passport department launches 24/7 digital monitoring system


A framework is established to improve transparency, efficiency and response times at the national level.

Pakistan’s Passport Department has introduced a new digital system to monitor passport applications, printing and operational performance, officials said on Monday.

Under the initiative, a dedicated 24-hour surveillance room has been established at the department’s headquarters in Islamabad following the directives of Director General of Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi.

Officials said the system works with an integrated digital dashboard that will allow real-time monitoring and evaluation of daily operations, both within Pakistan and at passport offices abroad.

The new framework allows for end-to-end oversight of the passport process, from submission of applications to final delivery. Officials said this would help improve transparency, efficiency and service delivery.

The monitoring system will also automatically identify overcrowding in passport offices, allowing administrators to respond more quickly to pressure points in the public service.

Additionally, staff performance, passport printing operations, delays and machinery status will be tracked through the Network Management System.

Qazi said the system would significantly improve the department’s performance.

He added that citizen engagement and staff efficiency would now be centrally monitored across all passport offices, and that a mechanism had been introduced to ensure immediate resolution of issues once identified.
