Wildlife Rangers Punjab rescue sambar deer, arrest hunters and step up efforts to curb illegal hunting
LAHORE:
Punjab wildlife rangers have intensified their province-wide crackdown on illegal hunting, rescuing protected species and initiating legal action against violators in multiple districts.
Officials said a female sambar deer that had strayed from its natural habitat in the Gujarat region was safely rescued during a wildlife protection operation.
The animal was later shifted to Joharabad Wildlife Park where it is receiving proper care and monitoring.
In a separate operation in Rahim Yar Khan, Wildlife Rangers arrested three individuals red-handed for illegally hunting partridges.
The suspects were prosecuted under relevant wildlife protection laws and fined more than 150,000 rupees for violating regulations related to hunting of protected bird species.
Meanwhile, in Layyah district, rangers carried out a raid against illegal hunting activities involving turtle doves and pigeons.
While two suspects managed to flee the scene, cases have been registered against them and raids are being carried out to ensure their arrest.
Officials said the recent operations reflect the department’s renewed determination to curb wildlife crimes and protect protected and endangered species across Punjab.
