- An update to the Philips Hue Flourish table lamp is on the way
- Lumens will increase from 806 to 1100.
- It is unclear when the lamp will go on sale worldwide.
IKEA’s recently introduced donut lamp, part of the Varmblixt series, has attracted attention in recent weeks, but Philips Hue looks set to counter with a new product of its own, based on the existing Hue Flourish table lamp.
According to a listing seen on Amazon Germany (via Hueblog), the lamp will be upgraded from 806 lumens to 1100 lumens. That should mean a higher maximum brightness for the Flourish lamp when it’s in your home.
If you are new to the product, the lamp does not actually have a fixed light inside, like the Flourish pendant lamp or the Flourish ceiling lamp. Instead, it comes with a Philips Hue E27 bulb for full-color lighting, which can be replaced when necessary.
It’s that bulb that generates the improved lumens in the new version, and the rest of the lamp appears to be the same: it’s still 26.1 centimeters wide and 17.5 centimeters tall, so make sure you have enough room for it before you buy it.
Is the price correct?
According to the Amazon Germany listing, the upgraded Flourish table lamp will be available for around the same price as the previously released version, although the older model is no longer available to purchase directly from Philips Hue.
The previous version would have set you back $153.99/£129.99 (approximately AU$225, although it’s unclear what the original price was in Australia). Remember that it includes both the E27 bulb and the surrounding lamp, made of glass.
The IKEA Varmblixt donut will set you back $99.99 when it goes on sale in April (that’s around £75/AU$145, although international pricing is TBC), so if you’re going for the cheaper option, it looks like IKEA is still the way to go.
Of course, a lot depends on what else you’ve set up in your smart home: If you’ve already invested heavily in Philips Hue lights and maybe a Hue bridge to connect them all, then the Flourish table lamp makes the most sense. Well, either that, or buy a different IKEA lamp and use a Philips Hue bulb inside it.
