As OpenAI prepares to launch free ads and $8 ChatGPT Go, the company has assured users that the ads will not affect ChatGPT responses and will be labeled and separated from content.
The first signs of this launch have been detected on Android devices, suggesting that the inclusion of ads in ChatGPT is close.
As noted on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI has designed a full-screen onboarding experience to familiarize users with ads in ChatGPT.
Although the artificial intelligence giant has assured not to share personal information with advertisers, the current chat can still influence the type of sponsored ads that are shown below the answers.
At the current stage, what is commendable is that users have the option to hide ads, understand why specific ads were shown, and clear their ad data.
The ads will appear as a “Sponsored” block, and tapping the overflow menu will open the drop-down menu to hide the ad, report it, or even “Ask ChatGPT” about it.
OpenAI stated: “Our mission is to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity; our pursuit of publicity always supports that mission and makes AI more accessible.”
Additionally, the company has emphasized that conversations will remain private to advertisers and that user data will never be sold. A new “Ad Controls” page has also been added to allow users to manage their ad history and interests without affecting their chat data.
These ads will not be shown to users on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans.
