- A new television advertisement for The Mandalorian and Grogu was shown during the 2026 Super Bowl
- It’s a parody of the old Budsweiser Clydesdale ads.
- Star Wars fans have largely reacted negatively to the film’s latest trailer.
A new preview of The Mandalorian and Grogu was released online, and it seems like most Star Wars fans aren’t impressed by what they’ve seen.
The 30-second TV spot initially aired during one of the many Super Bowl 2026 ad breaks before being uploaded to the various Star Wars social media channels. And while it’s supposed to parody those Budweiser Clydesdale ads narrated by actor Sam Elliot, who returns to voice this teaser, it hasn’t been well received by sections of the sci-fi franchise’s fan base.

While this TV spot is fun and possibly creative, longtime fans of the Lucasfilm property have had a lot to say since it appeared, with threads on r/StarWars and r/StarWarsLeaks, as well as a quick analysis on social media platforms like X/Twitter, showing a flurry of negative reactions to the trailer.
Why are Star Wars fans so upset about The Mandalorian and Grogu’s TV spot?
Did Disney spend a lot of money on this #TheMandalorianAndGrogu commercial as a big gaming ad? 😵💫#SuperBowl #SuperBowlLX pic.twitter.com/8zw0XdWt3rFebruary 9, 2026
To begin with, the film, which begins some time after The MandalorianThe third season of Disney+ ended soon and will be out soon.
First announced as a big screen sequel to The Mandalorian In mid-2024, the film starring Pedro Pascal will hit theaters on May 23, 2026. However, even though it’s coming out in just over three months, we’ve only seen one major trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu – and that came to light last September.
You can understand why, then, when Deadline reported that Disney would be showing new footage during this year’s Super Bowl, fans were relieved and/or excited, at least until many of them saw the aforementioned TV ad, which reportedly cost $10 million to show at Super Bowl LX.
“What’s going on with the Lucasfilm marketing team?” X/Twitter user Shawn Nicholson wrote. “They are going to have another Only in their hands if they don’t correct this soon. Nobody talks about this, and those who do refer to it as command season 4. They need a proper trailer that will get people excited!
“The first Star Wars movie in 7 years is coming out in three months and this is what they’re releasing during the Superbowl?” Redditor SWFT-YouTube opined, “Yeah, it’s a funny ad, but come on.”
“I like #TheMandalorianAndGrogu’s Super Bowl ad,” @OutlawNoah mused. “But it’s concerning that they don’t really seem too eager to reveal more footage. They’re promoting this movie like it’s a Disney+ series. That’s NOT the way.”
This looks like an AI-powered Coca-Cola ad that will run as a cross-promotion. Not the actual movie. This movie is dead on arrival 😅 #StarWars #deadonarrivalpic.twitter.com/URfQkP8iEIFebruary 9, 2026
“Well, the marketing for this movie is still terrible,” said Reddit user vader602, before fellow Redditor billyb311 added: “The movie comes out in 3 months and this is the best we’ve got?”
Back on respect [Star Wars:] starfighter “It probably would have been the best option for the return of Star Wars.”
However, there were some who took the trailer at face value and had nicer things to say about it.
Redditor Acceptable-Slide9024 wrote: “I thought it was funny and was going to be the Budweiser commercial with the horses,” while taco-force said: “I’m here for the audacity of this ad.” Meanwhile, over on
Summing up those who saw the ad for what it was, Reddit user macmillianwinduarte simply added: “You guys will hate anything lol.”
