Body camera footage of Tiger Woods’ arrest for driving under the influence on Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday showed the 15-time major winner saying he “hoped” to play in this year’s Masters.
While Woods was sitting in a police vehicle, an officer was talking golf with him and mentioned a putter with which Woods said he won “14 majors.”
The official then asked Woods if he planned to play in the Masters and he responded, “Hoping to.”

Someone associated with Woods approached the group speaking and added, “It’s up to all of you.”
Woods will not play at Augusta National Golf Club next week for the first major of the season, which Augusta National president Fred Ridley confirmed earlier this week following the accident and arrest of the five-time green jacket winner.
“Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament fully support Tiger Woods as he focuses on his well-being,” Ridley said in a statement. “Although Tiger will not be joining us in person next week, his presence will be felt here at Augusta.”

There was a chance Woods would try to play in the Masters, and he clearly had that mindset before his accident.
Woods released a statement, announcing that he will step away from golf to “seek treatment” following his DUI arrest, which resulted in charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to submit to a blood alcohol level (BAL) test after authorities said his vehicle collided with another while driving drunk.
Woods issued the statement after pleading not guilty, waiving his right to an arraignment and demanding a jury trial on Tuesday.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods said in a statement posted on social media.

“I step away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary so I can prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
“I am committed to taking the time necessary to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and I ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time.”
Woods was found with prescription opioids in his pocket, as body camera footage showed. Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported observing several signs of deterioration after the crash. They noted that Woods was “sweating profusely,” his movements seemed “lethargic and slow,” and his eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and “extremely dilated” after removing his sunglasses.
Officers performed field sobriety tests on Woods while he was sitting on the bumper of a car, and a female officer had her finger in the air while Woods, while hiccuping, tried to follow him with her eyes.
This arrest marked Woods’ second DUI arrest in the last decade. In 2017, he was arrested, also on Jupiter Island, after taking prescription medication and falling asleep behind the wheel of a moving car at 3 a.m.

Woods was also involved in a rollover accident in 2021 that resulted in serious leg injuries and emergency surgeries, which he was referring to during field sobriety tests.
Woods has also signed up for the US Senior Open, according to Golf League teammate Kevin Kisner, which is scheduled for early July.
