Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson on Friday criticized Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for the decision to change leadership amid the ongoing military operation in Iran.
Hegseth on Thursday called on Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to resign and retire immediately. A senior War Department official told Pak Gazette that Hegseth called George and asked for his immediate retirement, saying, “It was time for a change of leadership in the Army.”

Gen. David Hodne, who led the U.S. Army’s Training and Transformation Command, and Maj. Gen. William Green, head of the Army Chaplain Corps, were also ousted, according to Reuters.
The former New York Yankees star criticized the moves.
“What’s going on with our Defense Sec? How do we get rid of all that experience right now? Help me, I don’t understand. Get rid of leader Chaplin (sic)?” Jackson wrote in X.

“What? We have a war going on and we are getting rid of most of our acquired experience and knowledge in even time.”
War Department chief spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed George’s move in a post on X.
“General Randy A. George will retire from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately,” he wrote. “The War Department is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation. We wish him the best in his retirement.”
Hegseth announced changes to the military’s “codes of faith” last month as he began reforming the Pentagon’s chaplain corps. He promised more changes would come.
