- RansomHouse came to Vivaticket through the subsidiary Irec SAS
- Theft of customer data, including names and booking details
- The attack disrupted ticket sales for museums and venues across Europe.
International ticketing platform Vivaticket recently suffered a ransomware attack that affected several major museums, theaters and other similar venues.
In a new entry on its data breach website, a group called RansomHouse said it hit Vivaticket through its subsidiary, Irec SAS, and accused the company of trying to sweep the whole matter under the rug.
“We strongly recommend that you contact us to prevent your confidential data and project documents from being disclosed,” the hackers apparently said.

Impact assessment
The criminals said that in the attack they stole customer data, including people’s full names, email addresses, purchase history and reservation details, country of residence and zip codes, and account metadata and login timestamps.
This may not seem like much, but for cybercriminals it is more than enough to launch convincing phishing attacks and steal login credentials or deploy malware on people’s computers.
We don’t know exactly how many people are affected by the attack, but it could be millions. Vivaticket works in 50 countries, managing ticket sales for some of the most popular museums in the world, such as the Louvre, and handles approximately 850 million tickets a year.
There is no notice of the incident on Vivaticket’s website and its newsroom site is currently offline.
Cybernews, citing the French Ministry of Culture, states that the financial impact of the attack is currently being assessed. Financial data, such as banking information or credit cards, was most likely not accessed.
France’s National Cyber Security Directorate (ANSSI) and other law enforcement agencies intervened and are currently assessing the scope of the attack as well as the damage.
However, the breach is impacting the industry, with many museums apparently unable to access secure online ticket sales and some European venues having to shut down their booking systems entirely.
