Prince Harry’s departure from the royal family might be done, but his headline-making presence with them still keeps him tied to the Firm.
The Duke of Sussex was allegedly forced to leave the United Kingdom after his surprise lawsuit against the late monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan’s husband was reportedly hoping to remain a part of royal life before a decisive negotiation led him to make an explosive decision, an expert has claimed.
The Sussexes stepped down as royals in January 2020, citing “a really difficult environment” as a key reason for their irreversible move.
Royal historian Hugo Vickers shared his insight into the situation, stating that William’s younger brother Harry “reluctantly left” after receiving an ultimatum.
In his new biography, “Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History,” the expert made shocking claims, revealing that the prince was “interested in discussing a way forward with the Queen.”
Harry, according to the author, wanted a half-in, half-out deal, whereby he would be self-funded but still be able to work for the royal family.
“In the new year 2020, the three private secretaries, Sir Edward Young, Sir Clive Alderton and Simon Case, went into summit mode on the Sandringham estate and drafted their proposal,” according to the book.
There, Harry was allegedly told it was “all in or all out.” That’s why, according to Vickers, the Sussexes spent Christmas that year abroad. “He returned to Canada and left reluctantly,” he said.
Harry’s relationship with his brother, Prince William, also took a dramatic turn after the release of his 2023 memoir, ‘Spare’.
In the book, the duke accused the future monarch of physically attacking him during an argument about Meghan and called his father “cold” and “distant.”
Since then, Diana’s children have barely exchanged words and reportedly last spoke briefly at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022.
However, a friend of William’s says: “He’s not heartless; a part of him really misses how things used to be, and adds: “But too much has happened. “Can they ever really rebuild that trust.”
