- James Gunn criticized a report about the casting process of his Superman continuation
- Deadline Says Four Actors Have Tested for Apparently Key Role
- The co-CEO of DC Studios has called it “silly,” “shoddy” and “incorrect” reporting.
James Gunn has criticized a new report that suggests four actors have auditioned for an apparently key role in The man of tomorrowalso known as his Superman movie sequel.
In Threads yesterday (April 8), Gunn criticized Deadline for its “shoddy and incorrect” reporting and “nonsense” about people who, according to the Hollywood trade publication, have auditioned for the DC Universe (DCU) movie.
That same day, Deadline claimed that Star Wars actress Adria Arjona, who appeared in the iconic franchise’s critically acclaimed Disney+ show. Andorand Extraterrestrial: EarthSydney Chandler was among the quartet of stars who had tried out for the role of Maxima. The cleaning lady star Eva De Dominici and tell me liesGrace Van Patten was also named as a potential candidate for the fiery Queen of Almerac, who was initially introduced to DC comics fans as a possible new love interest for the Man of Steel.

However, hours later, Gunn, who discovered the report after it was shared by comic book movie fan site Nexus Point News, took to social media to debunk what Deadline had reported.
“This is not against Nexus; they are sharing what Deadline reported, but Deadline’s reporting is shoddy and incorrect,” a frustrated Gunn wrote. “I always thought Deadline was pretty thorough in its journalism, but that’s not the case here, so I’m frankly disappointed.
“If someone had mentioned these names to us, we would have said they are nonsense,” he continued. “I have been friends with Adria [for] It’s been a long time since I chose it. The Belko experiment. I’m a fan of both Marisa and Ella, but I’ve never met either of them. Crazy.”

Responding to Gunn’s comments, Deadline indicated that DC Studios representatives declined to comment on the story. However, following Gunn’s response, Deadline updated its article to defend what it had heard from its sources.
“Deadline followed its normal editorial process while gathering news for this story,” an anonymous editor noted. “After a review in light of new information about the actors involved, the story has been updated.”
Interestingly, another Los Angeles-based news outlet, The Hollywood Reporter (THR), has since published its own article and claimed that its own sources also told it that Arjona, Chandler, Van Patten and De Dominici are in the frame to play Máxima. Gunn has yet to comment publicly on the THR article, but I suspect his response would be the same one he gave to Deadline.
‘One left, then we’re done’

Gunn’s tit-for-tat with Deadline understandably raised more questions from fans eager to learn more about the DCU Chapter One movie.
Responding to an individual on Threads who asked if this was Gunn’s way of confirming that Maxima was in The man of tomorrowresponded: “I don’t confirm it at all (and I didn’t).”
When another interested party asked when The man of tomorrowThe main cast will be announced, Gunn wrote: “I already have for every major role.” Finally, when someone else questioned whether all the roles, lead or not, had been filled, Gunn revealed that there was “one” left to finalize before completing his list.
