GB motorway project gains momentum


It serves as an alternative to the Karakoram Highway and reduces travel distance by 100 kilometers.

Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah on Thursday asked Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan to discuss infrastructure development and improvement of road networks in the region.

The proposed expressway project from Mansehra, Naran, Kaghan and Babusar Top to Jalkhand (MNJ) was discussed in the meeting.

Abdul Aleem Khan stated that the expressway would serve as an alternative to the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and would also reduce the travel distance by 100 kilometres. He added that by facilitating travel and promoting tourism, this project will be a game-changer for the region.

Aleem Khan further stated that the Government aimed to improve roads in tourist areas on a priority basis to attract more visitors, thereby creating employment and business opportunities for local communities. He reiterated the commitment to ensure uniform development throughout the country and prioritize the construction of quality road infrastructure in all regions, especially in the northern areas.

Governor Gilgit-Baltistan expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the National Highway Authority and appreciated the support of the Federal Minister towards the development of Gilgit-Baltistan.
