President Donald Trump warned that the US “would no longer have an Olympic team” if not for the NCAA’s regulation to address dwindling resources for certain unprofitable college sports in the US.

Trump made the warning at a White House ceremony honoring several recent NCAA champions in nonprofit sports.

“75% of the Olympic athletes competing for Team USA played as college athletes. If we don’t fix this, we’re not going to have a great Olympic team because there are a lot of these sports, especially certain sports where they’re like the little leagues, you could call them the major leagues, you can call them whatever you want, but we train incredible athletes to come in and win the gold medal,” Trump said Tuesday.

“Without college sports, without the ability to participate in college sports, compete and really learn how to play and improve, we will no longer have a great Olympic team.”

Trump made the comments while honoring the NCAA championship teams of Youngstown State bowling, Oklahoma State men’s golf, Texas A&M women’s volleyball, Wake Forest men’s tennis, Georgia women’s tennis, West Virginia co-ed rifle and Florida State women’s soccer.

Trump even made a rare admission of a skill he’s not so good at during the White House ceremony.

Trump, while honoring the Youngstown state bowling champions, confessed that he is not a great bowler.

“It’s not easy to bowl, I’ve tried it, it doesn’t work very well for me. In fact, it’s very difficult. It’s very difficult,” Trump said.

The ceremony put a spotlight on the non-revenue college sports that Trump seeks to preserve in his recent executive order, titled: “Urgent National Action to Save College Sports.”

Trump has taken executive action to mandate that revenue-sharing models implemented by universities must preserve or expand scholarships and opportunities for women and olympic sportsdating back to last year with a similar executive order.

The ceremony occurred the same afternoon that Trump extended the current ceasefire with Iran.

“Based on the fact that the government of Iran is severely fractured, as expected, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to suspend our attack on the country of Iran until its leaders and representatives can present a unified proposal,” Trump said in a post shared on Truth Social.

“Therefore, I have ordered our military to continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and capable, and I will therefore extend the ceasefire until your proposal is presented and discussions concluded, one way or another.”
