ISLAMABAD:
The government has decided to install modern machinery at airports to improve the screening process and facilitate the operation of passengers through a single window. This decision was taken on Wednesday in a special meeting chaired by Federal Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The meeting aimed to develop a joint strategy between the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defense to ensure foolproof security at airports. Joint measures to facilitate public service at airports were discussed and it was decided to ensure effective coordination between all relevant institutions.
The meeting also decided to establish joint counters and introduce a unified control system at a single point. He also reviewed progress in the installation of electronic gates at airports.
Naqvi highlighted the need to provide passengers with faster customs clearance and easier travel facilities. He stated that jointly checking all institutions with a single scanner would save time and make the task easier.
“Congestion and waiting times at airports can be reduced through coordination between institutions. The government is committed to providing the public with modern and convenient travel facilities,” he said.
The Secretary of Defense informed the participants that modern machinery is being imported to prevent damage to aircraft and accidents caused by birds at airports.
Minister of State for Home Talal Chaudhry, Home Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, Defense Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Ali and Home Additional Secretary Major General (retd) Noor Wali Khan attended the session.
Additional Secretary Defense Major General (retd) Qaiser Suleman, Director Anti-Narcotics Force Major General (retd) Abdul Mueed and Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Dr Usman Anwar also participated in the meeting.
