The first trailer of star city — a new sci-fi series for Apple TV from the creators of For all humanity – has arrived, giving us our first look at the “alternate history” of the space race. According to the streamer, the series will “explore the space race behind the Iron Curtain, when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon, starting May 29.”
The cast is led by Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey and Alice Englert, and in the first trailer (which you can watch below) we see a traitor in their midst, with an unknown source leaking military secrets from their base in Star City.
Compared to For all humanityApple TV’s alternate version of the true story is much darker… and that’s a good thing.

Star City on Apple TV turns the space race into a ‘paranoid, propulsive thriller’
Look
From the trailer above there’s no doubt that Star City is technically fiction, but perhaps it’s more tied to real-world events than we think. For starters, the show’s title alludes to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia, which had the same nickname.
As Apple TV goes on to explain, “star city is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alternate history of the space race: when the Soviet Union became the first nation to land a man on the moon.
“But this time, we explore the story behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.”
While For all humanity It’s not exactly a ton of joy when it comes to imagining the inner workings of rocket science (especially if you’ve been watching season 5), the cold color grading, and the creepy visuals in the above. star city The trailer indicates that something much more sinister is afoot.
Either way, I’m sitting on it, mostly because I know from Line of duty and Steal How incredibly well Anna Maxwell Martin plays a cruel and distant villain.
The eight-episode series will debut globally on Apple TV with two episodes on May 29, followed by a new episode each week until July 10.
