Imran family upset over PTI leadership

ISLAMABAD:

Frustration within the family of jailed PTI leader Imran Khan has resurfaced, with his sisters openly expressing their displeasure at the party leadership’s response while calling for fresh pressure on the government to ensure medical treatment and access for families.

In a fresh push, the family urged lawmakers and senior PTI leaders to gather outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday (today), seeking to compel the authorities to allow access and provide adequate medical care to the former prime minister.

Aleema Khanum, one of Imran’s sisters, on Monday asked MNAs, MPAs, senators and senior PTI leaders to meet at the jail.

In a post on X, he said the move was aimed at forcing authorities to allow access and ensure proper medical care for his brother.

He said the family was demanding immediate access by lawyers and relatives, the transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for specialized treatment in the presence of his personal doctor and family, and an urgent hearing on the bail applications of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

He also alleged that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were being held in solitary confinement, calling it illegal and in violation of human rights norms.

This development comes as another sister, Noreen Khan, expressed clear disappointment with PTI lawmakers for not applying enough pressure from Parliament.

Speaking to The Express PAkGazette, he said: “Those who are in the assemblies came because of Imran Khan’s votes.

It is your responsibility to speak up for him. “We can’t do what they can do from inside parliament.”

However, Noreen Khan clarified that there are no differences with political allies including Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan (TTAP). “We are not involved in political matters. Our only demand is access to Imran Khan and that his party and allies continue to raise their voices for his medical treatment,” he said.

Responding to a question about a recent meeting between Imran Khan’s sisters and TTAP leaders Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, he described it as an informal tea meeting with no political agenda.

TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Yusufzai said Noreen and Uzma Khan expressed disappointment over the PTI’s role during a meeting with the family on Sunday.

Importantly, Yusufzai revealed that secondary contacts with the government have been restored to a “hardline” level after a considerable gap. However, he declined to give further details.

On Aleema Khanam calling a meeting in front of Adiala Jail, Yusufzai said a large participation of PTI leaders would increase pressure on the government, which he described as necessary in the current situation.

The Express PAkGazette contacted PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI KP Chairman Junaid Akbar and PTI Barrister Chairman Gohar Ali Khan for their response to Aleema Khanam’s call, but none of them responded till the filing of this report.
