PM Shehbaz condemns drone attack on UAE ‘civil infrastructure’

He says it is necessary to maintain and respect the ceasefire to allow diplomacy to lead to peace and stability in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned “missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure” in the UAE in an X post on Tuesday.

“Pakistan firmly supports our Emirati brothers and sisters as well as the Government of the United Arab Emirates in this difficult time,” he wrote in X.

He followed up the message by saying that it was necessary to maintain and respect the ceasefire to “allow the diplomatic space necessary for dialogue leading to lasting peace and stability in the region.”

Authorities in Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates, said Monday that a fire broke out in the Fujairah oil industrial zone following what they described as a drone attack from Iran.

Civil defense teams were immediately deployed to contain the fire, the Fujairah press office said in a statement.

The UAE Defense Ministry said in a post on X: “The UAE has intercepted three missiles fired from Iran over its territorial waters, and a fourth missile crashed into the sea.”

The statement added that “the Ministry of Defense stated that the sounds heard in different parts of the country are the result of threats faced by air defense systems.”

“The ministry urged the public to obtain information from official sources and comply with all public safety procedures when issuing warning messages to the public,” it said.

There was no immediate comment from Iran. However, Iranian state media, citing a senior military official, said Iran had no plan to attack the United Arab Emirates.
