Billie Eilish is doubling down on her most controversial bet yet.
On Thursday, May 7, the Grammy-winning pop star took to her Instagram Stories to respond to the backlash she received after stating in an interview last week that one can’t claim to be an animal lover and eat meat at the same time.
Sharing several videos (some taken from documentaries) about the animal abuse that occurs in the meat and dairy industries, the 24-year-old wrote: “I really don’t give a damn” about the reaction.
“Go watch a documentary or two and some footage of what is done to the animals you claim to love and what it also does to the planet you claim to love,” Eilish continued in the next story. “If you found it difficult to watch that footage, I encourage you to watch yourself.”
He WILD FLOWER The hitmaker said she is “so tired” that something like “standing up” and “having empathy for living things” is considered “controversial.”
He added that his critics are in a state of cognitive dissonance, that is, mental tension when thoughts and beliefs (in this case, loving animals) do not align with their actions (exploiting animals for food, entertainment or clothing).
“Please continue to live in a constant state of cognitive dissonance and denial and try to convince yourself that you are not living a lie,” he concluded, signing off with a simple kiss emoji.
Backlash erupted after Eilish revealed “the hill she would die on” in an April 28 interview with she magazine. Raised as a vegetarian and vegan at age 12, Eilish’s response was, “Eating meat is inherently bad.”
He went on to explain: “Two things can’t coincide: ‘I love all animals so much and I eat meat’. You just can’t do both, sorry! You can eat meat, do it. You can love animals, but you can’t do both.”
As a great environmentalist, Eilish has always put her own words into practice. Their Hit Me Hard and Soft tour from 2024-2025 is often praised for being eco-friendly, including the use of plant-based foods and reusable water bottles.
