- The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could have a 50MP main camera
- That would almost certainly make it weaker for photography than the standard Z Fold 8, which likely has a 200MP camera.
- However, it could at least have a decent battery capacity.
If you were hoping that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could come close to the standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 in photography, we have bad news, because the latest leak suggests it will be significantly worse.
We already expected this phone to have just two rear cameras, instead of the three we’re likely to get on the Z Fold 8, and now we’ve learned that the main (wide-angle) camera could be worse here, too.
According to GalaxyClub (via GSMArena), the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will have only a 50MP main camera, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, and probably the Z Fold 8, has a 200MP one.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will reportedly have at least a 50MP ultrawide camera, which would likely match that of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and an upgrade from the 12MP one used by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. But if this claim is accurate, then its zoom abilities probably won’t be much, as it won’t have a dedicated telephoto camera nor a main sensor large enough for a decent sensor crop zoom.
All in all, this phone sounds closer to the Galaxy Z Flip 8 in terms of camera hardware, which is also rumored to have a 50MP main sensor, albeit accompanied by a weaker 12MP ultra-wide-angle one.
A disappointing revelation
Potential buyers are understandably unhappy with this rumor, as one of the comments on the aforementioned GSMArena article says “removed from my wishlist” and another describes the upcoming phone as “another extremely expensive Samsung device with outdated mid-range cameras.”
Still, there is good news, as today’s report also echoes previous claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will have a 4,800 mAh battery and the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a 5,000 mAh one, both of which would be above the 4,400 mAh battery inside the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
We’ll probably find out how accurate all of this is in July, since that’s when these phones are likely to launch.
