- Avast introduces new free modular platform
- Avast One offers free antivirus and scam protection, with optional extras
- Users only pay for the features they use
When it comes to choosing antivirus protection, there has always been a clear separation between the protection offered by free and paid services, an issue that has worried both money-loving and budget-minded prosumers.
But Avast may have changed all that. From a basic standpoint, its new Avast One platform includes powerful antivirus protection along with the essential privacy protections that today’s Internet requires.
The free tier starts with industry-leading antivirus protection, scam protection, and web protection. If additional features are needed, such as AI agent protection, a no-logs VPN, data breach monitoring, or device wiping, they can be added as individual modules, so users only pay for what they need.
An essential, free and simple online security package
The new Avast One user journey begins in a single pane of glass with free antivirus enabled. From this base, users can add the individual modules they need.
Avast One now eliminates rigid subscription tiers with locked features that some users never use, allowing them to flexibly add the individual modules they need.
Outside of the free base, users can choose from a variety of free and paid add-ons to improve security and privacy coverage. For example, users can choose to use the platform’s free cleanup service to save hard drive space and remove dysfunctional shortcuts and software.
The same goes for BreachGuard’s free personal information protection, which can scan the dark web for exposure and prevent advertisers from loading sites with targeted ads.
“People know what they value and how they want to protect their digital lives,” said Travis Witteveen, director of products and portfolios at Gen. “Avast One is designed to give you greater choice and control, making it easy to customize protection, manage features, and pay only for what you really need.”
For those who require enhanced protection to check for suspicious emails, banking protection, and remote access protection, users can choose to include Premium Security as a paid addition. Or if a VPN is required, users can choose to pay for Avast’s SecureLine VPN, which comes with a 60-day free trial.
Cleanup can also be upgraded to Premium to include additional space saving and speed optimization features. The same goes for BreachGuard by including alerts for leaked personal information, scanning for data breaches, and access to a wealth of security and privacy tips.
