KARACHI:

The Red Line project on University Road has become a growing source of frustration for citizens, with residents describing the ongoing construction as a prolonged ordeal and questioning the quality of the work being carried out.

Although authorities had recently completed and opened for traffic a stretch of the road from Safari Park to Nipa Chowrangi, the stretch has reportedly started sinking at multiple points within days of its opening.

The road has developed depressions of around four to six inches in several places, while manhole covers have been installed over the road surface, creating dangerous conditions for motorists, especially motorcyclists.

Citizens fear that the uneven surface and raised decks could lead to serious accidents as traffic continues to move through the area.

The situation has added to public concern over the construction of the Red Line on University Road, which residents say has already caused serious hardship over the past four and a half years due to prolonged delays and disruptions.

Following these issues, traffic has been diverted to an adjacent route after the affected stretch was reportedly closed again for remedial work.
