An investiture ceremony was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to confer military awards on officers and men of the Pakistan Army in recognition of exceptional gallantry in operations and distinguished services rendered to the nation, the army’s media wing said on Thursday.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir attended as chief guest and presented awards to the families of the martyrs as well as serving officers and soldiers.
ISPR said the decorations included 50 Sitara-i-Imtiaz and 12 Tamgha-i-Basalat. The posthumously awarded medals were received with honor by the families of the martyrs.

Paying tribute to those fallen and wounded in service, Field Marshal Munir said: “Shuhada and Ghazis remains the enduring pride of the nation. Their honor and sacrifice are a sacred task for all Pakistanis. The peace and security of our country is due to their supreme sacrifices and unwavering devotion to duty.”

He also expressed “deep admiration for the resilience, dignity and steadfastness demonstrated by the families of Shuhada”, recognizing their “incomparable sacrifices and unwavering commitment to the country.”

Praising the operational preparedness and determination of Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies, Field Marshal Munir praised their continued efforts against terrorism and reaffirmed that “the fight against terrorism will continue with full national resolve until lasting peace and stability is achieved across the country,” ISPR added.

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded 47 military awards to distinguished officers and soldiers to recognize their exceptional bravery, leadership and meritorious services rendered for the defense of the country.
Three personnel, including an officer and two jawans who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, were posthumously awarded Sitara-i-Basalat for acts of bravery and sacrifice.
The President also conferred Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) on 44 senior officers of the armed forces. The awards recognized his outstanding leadership and meritorious service.
