ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is reportedly considering a return to parliamentary standing committees as part of a broader internal reassessment of its legislative strategy, party sources said on Thursday.
Sources said the parliamentary party PTI brought forward a key resolution for immediate implementation, which has now been presented before the party’s legislators for consideration and approval.
The resolution is said to have the support of the majority of parliamentarians. The proposed policy framework identifies the release of party founder Imran Khan and other political prisoners as the party’s core priority.
It also includes demands related to the imprisoned leader’s health, safety and access to his personal doctor.
According to sources, the resolution also outlines plans for the party to raise its voice more forcefully in parliament, courts and public forums on key political and governance issues.
It also highlights the need to highlight issues such as inflation, unemployment and broader human rights concerns. The document also advises adopting legal and constitutional measures against the prosecution of civilians in military courts.
Sources said the resolution includes a decision to conduct monthly reviews of parliamentary performance.
It also calls for strengthening media conversations, press conferences and public outreach campaigns to make them more effective.
Under the proposed framework, the plenary strategy, strikes and voting decisions will be carried out strictly in accordance with the directives of the party leadership. PTI MPs have been instructed to strictly follow party discipline.
According to the resolution, any deviation from party policy will lead to disciplinary action.
Sources further said that once passed, the resolution will be implemented immediately.
