CJP forms committees to fill key positions

The top judge has formed separate committees comprising senior judges and the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) to oversee appointments to key posts in the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP), Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) and the Supreme Judicial Court. Council (SJC).

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court on Thursday, the committee for selection of LJCP secretary is chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and comprises Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Shahid Waheed.

The panel will interview the candidates nominated by the chief secretaries of the provinces.

Similarly, the JCP secretary selection committee consists of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and the AGP.

A committee comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar and the AGP will interview candidates for the post of SJC secretary.

These committees will interview candidates, including serving and retired district and sessions judges, nominated by the chief justices of the five high courts and chief secretaries of the provinces.

The purpose of forming these committees is to “defend transparency and meritocracy in appointments.”
