- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 Arrives January 28
- Introduces a ton of new maps, weapons and modes.
- This is in addition to balance changes, fixes, and a Terminator crossover event.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 is almost here, and the next batch of live service content for the popular multiplayer shooter will arrive on January 28. With a host of new maps, modes and weapons, it comfortably has some of the most exciting additions yet.
For me, the highlight here is the new multiplayer maps. There will be three available at launch: Bounty, Dealership and Lifeline. All three are completely new environments created for Black Ops 6 and it seems like a very varied selection. Bounty is located atop a sleek skyscraper, with a nightclub, rooftop, office, lobby, and more.
As the name suggests, Dealership takes place in a car dealership, but with an interesting twist. The dealership is actually a front for a weapons smuggling ring, and its large showroom gives way to a sinister black market in weapons. While both maps are geared towards 6v6 matches, Lifeline is a more compact type of environment that can be played in 6v6 and 2v2 modes. It’s a small boat, called the Lifeline, that moves quickly through rough waters.
That’s not all, however, as two other maps will also be added throughout the season. The new Bullet is definitely the best one for me, as it allows you to fight your way through a speeding bullet train that looks like a scene straight out of a Bond movie. Playable in both 2v2 and 6v6, its tight corridor layout also looks absolutely perfect for gaining XP, so I’m looking forward to putting in the hours to level up my gear.
The final map is a remaster of Grind, which first appeared on Black Ops 2 although I am more familiar with the Black ops 4 version. This arena-style skatepark map is pretty decent, but I personally prefer to explore layouts we haven’t seen before.
Of course not Obligations The season would be complete without some new modes as well. Overdrive is an all-new mode available at launch that will challenge you to earn stars through eliminations, headshots, and takedowns. Collecting a set number of stars activates bonuses, such as the ability to see enemies through walls, increased movement and reload speed, or improved handling.
The classic gun game also returns and upgrades your team with up to 20 different loadouts with each kill. Two limited-time modes are coming in time for Valentine’s Day, the aptly named Third Wheel Gunfight and Couples Dance Off.
Throughout Season 2, two new perks will be added, a new wild card and a new points streak. The Enforcer Hunter’s Instinct perk increases your running speed and reduces your Tac Sprint. Activision hasn’t revealed the name of the other perk yet, but we do know that it will highlight the next closest enemy with each successful kill.
The new wild card, Flyswatter, will be a godsend for those tired of dying from helicopter gunners or other score streaks, as it allows you to replace your melee weapon with a launcher. As for the new Scorestreak, War Machine returns, allowing you to use a powerful cluster grenade launcher that is perfect for clearing campers.
All of this adds up to four newly revealed weapons: the rapid-firing PPSh-41 submachine gun, the reliable Cypher 091 assault rifle, the remarkably compact Feng 82 LMG, and the accurate TR2 marksman rifle. This is joined by a variety of new weapon attachments, most interestingly a full crossbow that you can stick to the bottom of your weapon, plus plenty of balance changes, fixes, new packs, a new battle pass, and even a Terminator crossover event.
