ISLAMABAD:
The government has proposed a substantial increase in social sector spending in the next fiscal year, allocating Rs 187.2 billion to support poverty alleviation and sustainable development initiatives under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the budget proposals, Rs 70 billion has been allocated to the SDG Achievement Programme, which aims to improve the well-being of poor and marginalized communities across the country.
The proposed allocation for the social sector has been increased to Rs 187 billion from Rs 147 billion in the current fiscal year.
A total of Rs 78.5 billion has been proposed for the education sector and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). To support underprivileged students across the country, Rs 3 billion has been allocated to the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund to provide educational scholarships.
